About the event

Musical by Jerry Herman & Michael Stewart

Music and lyrics by Jerry Herman
Book by Michael Stewart

In German language with German and English surtitles

Widow and matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi is eager to find a match for grumpy merchant Horace Vandergelder. But secretly, she has her eye on him! As she orchestrates romantic entanglements, Horace’s employees Cornelius and Barnaby pursue love, while his niece Ermengarde clashes with her strict uncle and courts her love interest Ambrose. In the end, Dolly’s clever schemesensure that every heart finds its match, proving that love sometimes needs a little nudge and unforgettable music.

Director Martin G. Berger and filmmaker Jakob Brossmann explore in the new production at the Volksoper what makes (romantic) relationships succeed, how people can remain happy together, and how concepts of relationships have changed.
